The end of my LONG break.
14 April 2014, I stepped into an institute (REPUBLIC POLYTECHNIC) that I was going to spend almost the rest of my 3 years in. Yes, as much as I cannot believe it I have gone on to the next level of education in my life. I am in awe of how fast I have became a tertiary education student. At the same time, I feel matured and independent to face the new responsibilities and workload.
Even though I was excited for the Freshmen Orientation Programme, my stomach started feeling uncomfortable giving me the side effects of nervousness. I was so happy when I saw Swathi waiting for me at the entrance of the campus but little did I remember that we would be parted because of the courses we are in. The both of us felt as if our world just ended when we had to say "Bye, text me how it goes.". Hahaha! Oh, GUESS WHAT? I was late on the first day of the programme itself. As I entered the sports hall where the first year students of School of Sports, Health and Leisure had to assemble, all pair of eyes had to shoot me visually and make me feel so awkward.
After admin matters, I was asked to go over to the group that I was assigned to. Thank god, I was gifted with 3 awesome student leaders who made me feel so good to be in that group. Being the social bug and extrovert I have always been, as soon as I reached the spot where my group was settling down, a dark-skinned petite and sweet looking Indian girl with an unique name of "Suriya" from the same group approached me and became my good buddy quite fast.
With the usual ice-breaking and bonding activities, the day was going good. I totally enjoyed all the crazy cheers and the adventurous activities. However, god always loves putting me through at least the tiniest challenges. I returned from a short wash room break with Suriya and it reached my ears that one of my cheek SL actually submitted my name along with Suriya's for the participation in Jam and Hop. Jam and Hop is the event where all the freshies of RP come together to party like there is no tomorrow and to support their individual school representatives who would be performing any kind of talent competitively. The end of the competitive segment is also known as "under-age clubbing". It might sound hilarious, but the atmosphere is as good as having fun with intoxicated people.
Back to the shock I was going through, SHL was going to dance for Jam and Hop which also means that I am dancing for a competitive reason after god knows how long. How long we are given to choreograph? 1.5 hours. YES. I was panicking the entire evening of FOP's first day. Everyone at home were encouraging me reminding me of how much I loved dancing though they had their secret giggles at how I am gonna be on stage again. Knowing that all I could do at that moment was to pray that no one laughs at me and just to go for it, I prepared myself mentally for the next day. It was a greater joke to know that I have to be dancing in an oversized RP tee and FBT shorts.
Because we had to be dressed in sports attire for the outdoor Tug-and-War in the morning. The time came where I had to show how much I had lost touch of dancing and do as much as I can in 1.5 hours. The SLs were quite helpful in helping us to decide songs but the entire choreo part was left to us. Thank god, we had mr really talented Spyro from Luminiq Crew who was so encouraging and easy with the steps. I managed to get how the whole dance went and I was more confident than I thought I would be but my heart was thumping so hard when I peeped at the audience who were all crowding like birds who just got freed from the cage. Soon after, our turn came and all the cheers from our fellow schoolmates and SLs made us so hyped. We did an all girl, an all boy and both girls and boys at the end to wrap up the dance with RP's theme. GUESS WHAT? I JUST HAD FUN AND ENJOYED MYSELF DURING THE PERFORMANCE. Though we did not win under the performing category, the high-fives our student leaders gave us and the compliments we received was overwhelming together with the fun we had.
It was approx 6.30 when our performance ended and all I knew that happened after that was crazy dancing, jumping, screaming, being crazy with the performing bands and singing along with the entire bunch of awesome people. TILL 10pm! My legs were screaming and I was so tired but I totally loved that evening. Oh how could I forget? A pretty good-looking Caucasian boy actually asked me for water but I had only sips of it left in my bottle. Oh boy! :( It was just my luck, haha! AND YES, that was my GREAT DAY 2 of FOP.
On the third day, we were assisted on how the admin issues in the school works everyday and what we would be practising on a daily basis. We were in a classroom with random course mates while Suriya and I were separated and definitely being the emotional wreck I was missing my group mates SO MUCH :( Jia En, Dan, Sean and everyone.
Talking about these people, I really have to thank them from the bottom of my heart because they made me feel so strong and loved within just 3 days. They did not make me regret coming to RP. In fact, they gave me a good reason to. They are people whom I would go up to and say hi wherever I see them be it in or out of campus. I love you all SHL WARRIORS. <3
Oh well, that was the end of my 3 fantastic days of being introduced to my new "home".
The start of a NEW journey.
